I never worried about polio, the flu or even chicken pox. But now, as a pseudo-adult, I can't afford birth control, check ups, or anything else essential to staying healthy. And with my parents being well into their later years, I have to worry about them as well. I just hope they survive until I turn at least 22.
my favorite part is that someone took this picture (digital camera) after travelling there (airplanes) and then digitally manipulated the image (computer) and posted it on the internet (connectivity) :D
and they probably had to get shots before going. shots that those kids probably don't get. and when they get home they can take medicine they ordered online. what happens when one of those boys steps on a nail?
I like modernity, I'm sorry if the author has a bone to pick with it. I like the idea of not living a horrible existence, at the brink of starvation with a bad harvest, not knowing if I will live to 50 or half my family suck or dying because there is no clean water to drink, &c.
This is why I enjoy interpreting pedagogy lectures and workshops. Today I learned that even greeting kids at the door with a smile results in a 22% increase in on-task performance. Also the most efficient seating system for learning is 2 desks, side to side, and the worst is a group of four where 2 pairs of kids face each other.
Also economic strife results in a pessimistic view on life and results in more depressed kids (no duh.)
Also learned that Denmark has the lowest failure rate related to literacy, correlated with the fact that they don't start developmental reading assignments until age 8. France, on the other hand, teaches literacy at age 4 and some of the highest failure rates.
