The ACA is law and has been for the law since March of 2010. Attempting to delay the individual mandate for a year when its ready to start tomorrow is not bargaining in good faith. Cancelling the ACA was a key part of their platform last Presidential election. And they lost.
Trying to reverse something at the 11th hour that the majority of American people favor and the courts have upheld is holding the country hostage. Even most of the Republican rank and file get it - the last time there was a government shutdown due to Repugs acting like butt hurt 12 year olds, the blame was laid squarely in their lap..And the polls are showing that a majority of Americans, including those who weren't in favor of the ACA will hold the Republicans responsible.
Last I heard ACA was ready as of tomorrow in 9 states and I disagree with that the majority of Americans want it. Hell I saw a poll saying that 29% of Americans could not even tell you the name of the vice president of the United States so I really doubt very many could give an educated answer on a very complex healthcare law that has yet to go online.
30 percent in this poll said they didn’t know enough about ACA to have an opinion on it. And the opinions varied from if you called it Obamacare or the ACA.
Well, what's up for negotiation? The Republicans are insisting on a policy grab-bag. What are they willing to offer, in exchange? Oh yeah... the continued solvency of the federal government and a well-functioning financial market.
If only the Democrats could see what a great deal that is!
It's adorable: after shamelessly lying about "It's not a tax" and "You can keep your existing insurance" and "Your premiums will go down" to get a bill that they hadn't read passed on a party-line vote, it's really amusing to watch Democrats complain about hardball politics.
Yes voting is now 'forcing down their throats.' Funny, I didn't hear your outrage when Republicans were forcing two unfunded wars on the American people. For that matter, I haven't heard your outrage on State's with majority Republican legislatures forcing objects up women vaginas in order for them to terminate a pregnancy. Hypocrite, much.
Hardball politics is one thing. Shutting down the govt is something else.
Hasnt' happened since the GOP did it in 95'. A little digging showed that it didnt actually *MATTER* before the AG under, that wascally tax-n-spend democrat, Jimmy Carter, said that govt agencies couldn't operate if the govt didnt agree to pay it.
Before the AG made such a decision, govt agencies just assumed congress would get around to fundin them, and went about their business as usual. After the AG made that decision, it became less common for drawn-out budget fights to take *too* long, cause then shit actually started getting mucked up!
So, since the Carter AG made his decision, the most notable times of govt shutdown are....
You guessed it! Both by the GOP! Newt Gingrich, and now.
So hardball politics is one thing. Shutting down 97% of NASA and a large host of other groups, because the GOP is throwing a temper-tantrum over the ACA? Grow the fuck up, GOP

At any rate time will tell in what happens in the next few days and who holds who responsible and I'm sure we will not agree on that either.
