I was giving Obama a pass on it as I was sure he kinda sorta meant what he said during the campaign about ending the war of terror.

Sure, but framing matters if one is expected to be taken seriously. NSA spying isn't a partisan issue.

It makes strange bedfellows, but I'd say there's still a fair bit of partisanship in people's views on it.

People who defend Obama, for example, usually come from the "my president, right or wrong,,as long as he's a democrat" left and the "security over freedom" right. At least one of those groups is consistent through the ages.

Which is why the new outrage amuses me. Who in their right mind thinks Obama was the -first- to do this? The laws allowing it passed during Bush's watch. Some of us said then that this was an issue, and was wrong, but got told Don't like it? Leave!
