The military issued a new proscription against proselytizing, as the evangelicals had gotten obnoxious in their attempts in the military. This of course has been taken to mean that if you wear a cross or read a Bible, your are PROSELYTIZING AND WILL BE COURT-MARTIALED!!!!! So, whargarbl.
Exactly. It's so frustrating, though to try to explain this to folks like, say, my parents, who generally are moderate (but maybe track a little bit conservative) who hear about "Benghazi whistleblowers" being "silenced" by "the Obama administration" and who are testifying before congress, and to try to unpack what it's really about, who's actually driving these memes, and where they really come from. Especially when you can actually reference actual timelines of what really happened, and they're handwaved, because "that doesn't agree with the timeline MY source provides, so your's is just making excuses for Obama."
Jesus, someone decided to fill out the long form of the Butthurt Report.
I like Obama's jaunty hat in the first cartoon.
Oh, and this is the actual Chris Broussard quote that bothered people:
“If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be — not just homosexuality, adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be — I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the Bible would characterize him as a Christian.”
– ESPN sportscaster Chris Broussard, commenting after Jason Collins, a Christian, became the first professional sports player to come out as gay.
Anyone who takes themselves too seriously ends up being hilarious. It's funny when a basketball commentator gets all high and mighty about immoral behavior when about 70% of NBA players are adulterous deadbeat dads to packs of bastard children.
Laughing pretty hard at the "Seattle May Day Protests" one. You would have to be pretty fucking daft to not know about the anarchists around here and about how they are not for more government.
I thought that one was pretty funny too. The problem is that the people who see that meme actually think those folks are like the civil rights era protesters. They really don't have a clue.
