The point of your comment was overwhelmed by the "it's for your own good" aspect. The consequences of all actions ripple throughout society - the picking and choosing of some consequences as worse than others, regardless of the science or the actual impact or the rationales behind them, pretty much stops the concept dead in its tracks.
