It's weird that Jesus' sacrifice can redeem absolutely any sin except skepticism.

Actually, that is a point of contention. Even back to Aquinas, there is a tradition of belief that claims that you get a chance to make up your mind after death, when God is revealed to you. In other words, athiests/agnostics/non-Christians will eventually be saved when they realize that God exists and convert. But it's either outright ignored (several Protestent churches just don't talk about it) or called false.
