Wow are the people who draw these comics fucking retarded or completely ignorant of basic world politics? Iran HATES the Taliban... however, the U.S. now needs a new escape-goat to focus on for all the problems it has created itself and is looking to wage war with the only sovereign nation left in the region.
What kind of loser would find something like this remotely funny is beyond me.
I do not consider myself a loser most of the time. But I did find this funny, simply because the last panel caught me off guard.
In terms of attacking Iran, I would be completely against that because regardless of the fact that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad often speaks out against America, most Iranians are pro-America. And despite the fact that our politicians hate each other, and the Iranians support Shia in Iraq (because when Saddam was in charge they got invaded and thus they don't want that to happen again) the average Iranian is still pro-American. Historically because we're not British or Russian and don't have the history of oppressing Persia, we've got that benefit. Also until the late 70s many Iranian students studied in America, so many of the business men, oil industry experts and such have fond memories of us. The point of rambling some of this history out: I'm not completely ignorant.
You don't need to agree with the point of a cartoon to find humor in it.
I am Iranian, and sorry, I beg to differ. I refer you to our last Coup d'etat ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Ajax ) led by American forces to remove our democratically elected prime minister Mosaddeq, a hope for Iran's future.
I refer you to congress that is currently investing millions of dollars in funding and putting in charge a bunch of thugs (like the previous coup) to once again cause destabilization in the only sovereign nation left in the region.
I fucking hate people who think they have the right to destroy other people's nations and lives this way.
What does pro-America even mean? I treat American people just like I would treat Japanese, Nigerian, Thai, Australian, Russian and whatever other people of nationality.... as people. Does that make me pro-russia? or pro-japan? There are some Americans I absolutely love, and there are some American I absolutely hate; just like ANYBODY ELSE.
However, if by pro-America you mean Iranians remotely agree with America's foreign policies (the only thing that really pertains them regarding america), well I beg to differ. You really must live under a rock if you believe that the world has not been injured, too much blood has not been shed time and time again by these selfish irresponsible policies. However, unlike you I don't speak on behalf of all Persians across the world, but myself and the impressions I've had from environment and society I lived in.
I agree the American government's policies then were atrocious and I also think the current administration and congress- are pathetic. When I said a history- I was speaking of a bit longer time period though. Relating more to The Great Game and that entire chapter of oppression in the Central Asian region. While the direct battle was for control and security of Indian through Afghanistan, it shaped the policies towards all other nations between the Ottoman empire, Russia and India. Due to lingering resentment towards both the British and Russians for their imperialist past, the American oppression and disrespect for sovereign nations is still fairly new. By pro American I meant more that the business aspire to be like our businesses, the media which makes it in has a welcoming audience, most experts in their fields take their cue from us (oil, industry, etc.. )
As for how you judge people- that's as it should be. But realistically most people don't do that. I am American and I don't think of myself as an imperialist bastard with no respect for anyone; however I admit my government certainly acts in such an inexcusable manner. And when abroad I get that resentment from people- something that 7 years ago wouldn't happen because 7 years ago people envied me when they saw my passport. That being said, when Bush speaks out against Iran I feel no resentment or hate towards them, I feel like Bush is an idiot. And I've read many articles suggesting the average Iranian feels the same when Ahmadinejad speaks comparing Bush to Hitler (He's bad but he's not that organized!). If the articles I've read are portraying something that isn't true- I'm sorry, I'm misinformed! But from what I've read it seems it's not the people of Iran or the people of America who dislike each other, but the politicians who have something to profit from a conflict and their actions don't reflect the average citizen believes.
That or let's hope that the liberals don't quit it when/if they get power.
Let's face it, the conservative minority has thus far been... unimpressive at best. The populace doesn't seem too keen on making them a majority, and frankly the massive smear campaign they ran doesn't seem to be winning all that much popularity for them either...
Though admittedly I've kind of stopped following politics so that could have change. My point was supposed to be not to get your hopes up, but I rambled a bit >.>
"ANTI-Taliban air strikes by US and NATO-led forces in Afghanistan killed 65 villagers, including children, on Friday as anger grows at the civilian toll."
No major issue? I am sure you wouldn't be saying that if that was your village and house and children...
