For all you conservatives out there in [livejournal.com profile] politicartoons (like what, maybe 7 of us) a plethora of conservative strips at townhall awaits your viewing pleasure (and displeasure I guess).

It's been pointed out several times that people who support Bush are not actually conservatives, as they are for big government, an interfering foreign policy, and social control of people. The proper term to apply is "Neoconservative". Or, as I prefer, rampaging despots with no respect for democracy.

Don't you Neo-Coms ever take a day off?

Wha? I don't recognize your affected label.

Neo-Communists. Or nuevos comunistas, humanists, progressives, what ever label it is being used to package the same tired ideology. All while pretending it's not the same thing the paleo-coms tried back before the collapse of the Union.

You're a dumbass. I'm no communist. The only communists around these days are old hippie college professors, the Chinese and North Koreans.

don't forget the Cubans! (or did I miss the Cuban revolution again?)

Oh yes, the irrelevant Cubans, too. :) Funny how neocons are so hyped up on the mostly dead corpse of the strongarm communist model, but are so quick to try to enact the same thing here, just wrapped up in a ginormous American flag.

Kind of hard when there was no point. Just a radical left opinion and a mis-definition.

I don't think these political labels really mean that much in this world anyway. Bush isn't a conservative, but I don't know what the hell he is. I don't think you can really say "If you don't believe X, Y, and Z, you can't have the label XYZer. I don't know what a neo-conservative even is, and I doubt anyone else really does either.

You yanks don't have any liberal parties.

Both mainstream parties are socially conservative and right-wing of most democratic governments, only Iran and Israel come close to the xenophobia, bigoty and religious fervour of Democrat and Republican parties in the USA.

I don't see how american parties are liberal in the classical sense either.. both want more 'security power', more government power, more economic-protectionism, more immigration control.

The only thing that is close to classically liberal are the tax breaks for the rich and the cuts to welfare and education.

when it comes to political parties, the UK has 3 main parties:
* Labour was traditionally left but now cherry picks policies from left and right of centre, and currently leaning right.
* Conservatives were traditionally right, but are currently claiming to move to the centre and occasionally cherry picking policies from the left.
* Liberal Democrats - traditionally centre, but currently effectively left of the other two parties, and moving economically right and socially left.

If you compare the worst european countries to the civilised bit of the US, like New York then you could come out ahead, but if you compare the main EU nations to the whole of the US including the redneck flyover states, america comes off a lot worse.

I always find your posts thoughtful and deliberative, [livejournal.com profile] softside. If the Liberal/Progressive Left were composed of more people like you and [livejournal.com profile] lib_seamus, instead of the Michael Moore socialists, I would re-register as a Democrat.

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] kmilligan always makes good arguments as well, so maybe I'll just stay Independent.

The point was that the "right of center" people arent actauly right of center.

At least most of them.

Sorry, allow me to be a bit more serious for a bit then.

It is hard to find more "neocons" around now because the term is pretty specific. Not just world view specific, but time frame specific. Neocons were liberals that changed the focus of their ideology. They didnt change their ideology.

Neocons started as basically communists/socialists. The ideology was Communism is fundamentally good and should spread throughout the world. Communism, of course, "failed them". It did so by its corruption. And they moved to a different target, democracy. They say "Democracy is fundamentally good and should spread throughout the world".

The reason we dont see new neocons is twofold. The first is that the ideology "Communism is fundamentally good and should spread throughout the world" is very very dead. The founding idea that we can make it all better if we just try is falling to a more complex understanding of politics.

The second is that the current neocons have fallen into the same traps that the communists did. In believing they were right and good, they have justified things that are wrong in order to achieve their goal. In doing these things, they have corrupted their ideals and themselves. Now, they arent anywhere as bad as the communists in the U.S.S.R. and other places were, and they probably wont ever be. The pits are the same, the neocons just havent started digging.

Sometimes, like when I read comments like this, I wish that I could be the one to decide who gets to be a democrat and who has to leave.

HAHAHAHA, those republicans sure are stupid!! LOL!!!

Conservatives can't carry on a conversation, type on a computer, or have the capacity to think! You are some fool.

Townhall is amazing anyway, though I'm not sure I like their new format for opinion articles.
