I recall everyone but Russ Feingold voting for the Patriot Act, and Democrats favoring laws that restrict speech in the form of campus speech codes and the press in the form of the Espionage and Sedition acts of the 1st World War. Also, consider the BCRA, which limits the freedom of the press in the days leading up to national election, and received votes of "no" by only 3 democrats. Not only is neither major party is a champion of individual rights, both go out of their way to restrict rights.

Yes... because NO ONE knew that financial records of terrorists was being tracked. And NO ONE at the U.N. knew the U.S. was using SWIFT. And NO ONE knew that the N.S.A. pretty much monitors every single digital transaction it can stick a decrypter on. "Secret intelligence gathering programs" is bullshit and you know it.

There's a difference between a free press and one that goes unaccounted for and can do whatever they feel like doing. We are made to be free men (and maybe women) but that doesn't mean we don't have restrictions placed upon us.
