And I don't understand what policies you're talking about? You mean policies like legislative oversight? Wanting and end to an unnecessary war? Wanting to hold oil companies economically accountable?
Well, they are portraying the democratic party as having some kind of problem in the 2006 elections... which already, I don't understand, because according to every poll I've seen NOBODY wants Republicans in Congress anymore.
And, it doesn't really explain why the democratic party is (supposedly) having problems. Which policies does the cast represent? Things like... wanting legislative oversight of criminal activity in the whitehouse? Or campaign reform? Or wanting a more clear-cut plan for dealing with the unnecessary war we're in? Which one of those is supposedly "crippling" the Democrats, do you think?
I think it's just another typical move from the right: waving around vague criticism without any substance. The only thing Republicans have actually been good at in years has been smearing opposition.
Now all that's needed is a jockey riding an elephant that's drowning in a quagmire labeled Iraq, emaciated by the deficits and tax cuts for the wealthy, wearing earplugs so it can't hear anything from the party faithful, blinders so it doesn't see the needs of ordinary americans and handcuffs thanks to the various criminal investigations and convictions from both the executive and legislative branches....
after all that, the donkey still looks like a much safer bet.
ya because in the countries state of mind. all you have to say is vote for me im not a republican. You dont even need any policies. You dont have to take a stand on anything. But then, when you go to debate your opposition and ask them to "visit my website" like Kerry. The voters will be turned off by it. Both parties are shit. The dems are no better than the GOP. So look for mixed results this upcoming election. Having more of one or the other will be all bad.
I don't know what policies it's referring to either. I can't think of the last time I heard a policy from the Dem party, except "not bush." Like kids playing tag and deciding who's it and saying "not-it not-it" "not-bush not-bush not-bush." Not Bush. That's all I hear. Wiretaps: Clinton did em, Bush did em. Bush did it, its bad. Spending: Clinton did a bunch, Bush did even more. Bush did it, its bad. Stupid wars: Clinton got us into them, Bush got us into them. Bush did it, its bad. Want me to go on?
So the Democrat's policies give it a handicap (which I don't really agree with; I think the Democrats' problem is an inability to communicate their policy ideas to the public), and the Republican has rabies and shits all over the racetrack. WOW WHAT A GREAT RACE
Personally, I think it's a little bit of both. The Democrats, like the Republicans, overall have some good ideas, and some dreadful ones, especially in the eyes of people who vote across party lines. As far as political strategy goes, I do think the Republicans had a leg up on the Democrats in recent years, but there's enough incompetence to go around. I think some Republicans see the writing on the wall as far as Bush goes in terms of public opinion, and are quite smartly distancing themselves from him in little ways.
iawtc - More specifically, incompetence in communicating their ideas. Dems views don't boil down into buzz words and talking points as easily as Reps do. They need to work harder to make their ideas clear.
Interesting how this turned into an attack on Republican polices yet again. Seems to me that's not what the cartoon was about and seems to me that there isn't much of a discussion about Democratic policies. Sure would like to hear about them.
What are you talking about, there was plenty of discussion about the Democrats. It basically amounted to "I don't even know what their policies are."
The reason Republicans were brought up is because the cartoon is implying that the Democrats will fail the '06 elections because of their policy failures, when neither party is a Seabiscuit.
