I personally like the idea of "You want in? Serve two years in the military and we'll give you citizenship, and you get paid."

I like the spirit of the idea, I really do. I'm just not sure I want our newest and largest pool of military recruits to be people who got here 5 minutes ago. And you know, regardless of intentions, that immigrants will get the shitty, dangerous assignments.

So you want to push people into the military before they are even allowed to vote?

Already done. Permanent residents serve in the US Armed Forces. Being in for three years even gets your naturalization waiting period waived (http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/special.htm#lpr).

Getting a green card is a complex process in and of itself--it's certainly not the same thing as having a person who's not been in the country before drafted into the military.

Then say that, instead of asking:

So you want to push people into the military before they are even allowed to vote? You want to allow foreign nationals into our military?

to which the answers are already "they already can".

Why are they crawling through a hole, when there's a huge gap in the fence only ten feet away?

Getting Americans to sign up for NG and BP is not a problem. Nice try.
