To replace a largely corrupt League of Nations?
To stand for ideals that aren't relevant in the same way they once were?
To manage a world order that didn't materialize as planned?

In theory it should be more powerful, but it isn't getting the funding or support it would need to, and they aren't reforming themselves fast enough (interestingly enough, under many of the same principles that the US uses to reform itself. Which is also behind in that regard).

"Why does the UN exist?"

History repeats itself. The same thing was said after WWI..

Why does the UN exist? To try to keep countries like the USA from starting a nuclear war and killing the human race because they are scared of a guy who wants to build power plants.

I'm in favor of the U.N. investigating Iran's nuclear program and enforcing sanctions rather than having the US play world's police again.

That being said, do you really think that Iran is only interested in building power plants, and do you really think the U.N. has a chance of stopping us from using our nukes if we have a President crazy enough to try?

I'm just saying, that's why the UN is there. Whether they are successful or not is another story.

Let's be real: the US could blow the UN off as much as it wants. It's a sheer courtesy to the UN that we work with it.

Also, President A is a complete nutjob.

I don't agree. I think he's a rigid idealogue, but not a religious fanatic.
