I understand Branco to be hard-Republican. So, the joke, I think, is that she knows very what what she was doing, and that she was even being cute when she first dropped the 'Clorox' line sometime ago. But the joke perhaps falls in on itself. I'm not a computer whiz, but if this Slate article is reliable, if she was being shadowy, she could have used much better products. I take it that BleachBit is in fairly general use.

Honestly, disk wipers are dime a dozen. There's tons of them, they're all just about equally (ie, 100%) effective, and they're a bog-standard perfectly-reasonable tool that *everyone* with half a clue uses before disposing of unwanted-but-working disks.

(Unwanted-but-not-working disks, you shred, or pound into scrap with a hammer. Professionally-paranoid people do that to working disks after wiping them, but that's not a normal step for a disk that's going to be re-used for something else by someone else.)

And OF COURSE you scrub disks that you're not using any more. You'd have to be *that* stupid, and that's really fucking stupid.
