Gotta agree. Libs in general make me cautious, as they tend to be code-word for "abolish everything because who doesn't want to live in Mad Max?"
Johnson isn't so bad per se. Pretty typical Republican from 20 years ago. Couple of issues I have: * Against stem-cell research. This is literally the next penicillin. * He was against the bank bailouts. Doesn't matter what you think of how they got there, it would have wrecked our economy if we didn't keep them around. They should have been broken up in the process, but... * He's also against farm bills and stimulus package. The farm bills are pretty much what is keeping the middle of America inhabited. The Stimulus is what kept us out of a full-blown Great Depression II. * Pro-legalization of everything. Eh. Not a big point for me, but still makes me cautious. * He's Pro School-voucher, which is a sure-fire way to make poor schools poor and rich schools richer. He also wants to expand it to church schools despite saying he is for the separation of church and state... * His stance of environment is pretty much "let the states decide". Hello, toxic hellhole Texas fucking it up for the rest of us. * He says he's against foreign aid... except where it protects US interests. This sounds like he hasn't given it much (any?) thought.
...In short, he's a pretty typical Libertarian. Wants the states to sell out to corporate interests, and the Federal Government to not be able to bandage the wounds.
Against stem-cell research. This is literally the next penicillin. That strikes me as the exact opposite of what Libertarians would want. I'm surprised by this stance.
Beyond my surprise, you make great arguments. I just don't understand people who drink the Libertarian kool-aid.
