Sure, it's all fun and games until...

I'll admit that I'm terrified by this election. There are lots of examples around the globe of how quickly social progress can erode if the wrong politicians get into power. Not just Trump but all of the down-ballot types that will support his authoritarianism and turn it to their own purposes. Like Putin with his compliant governors, state and local politicians who support Trump's broader goals will be left alone to do as they will with their fiefdoms. I fully expect that, if we're not careful, we'll see a choreographed resurgence of hate directed at the LGBTQ community, at Muslims, at minorities of every color. All that it needs is the blessing of a few outspoken politicians.

I saw another piece from Vox the other day about how Trump's not a fascist. Not only was it a reheated piece of shit - I swear I read it first months ago, and was warmed up just to respond to the recent Washington Post op-ed - but it's positively damaging to this country to try to make Trump not seem quite so bad. Independent media outlets like Vox will be the first in line to go down, under any Trump administration. You don't even have to successfully sue for libel to shut these outlets down. Subpoena them to Congress; snow them under with lawsuits; send investigators to find out who's anonymously disclosing embarrassing facts about the administration. Most of the mainstream outlets will spin their coverage, fast, once it becomes evident that they can maintain profitability without actually informing anyone of anything, as the Murdoch empire has already discovered, and they don't need to "investigate" past Trump's press releases to give their coverage a patina of newsy-ness.

Christ. Fuck every person trying to make Trump seem like an acceptable president.
