A mere 240 people live in the rural northeast Iowa town of Kensett, so when more than 300 crowded into the community center on Saturday night to hear Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, many driving 50 miles, the cellphones of Democratic leaders statewide began to buzz.
Kurt Meyer, the county party chairman who organized the event, sent a text message to Troy Price, the Iowa political director for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Mr. Price called back immediately. “Objects in your rear-view mirror are closer than they appear,” Mr. Meyer said he had told Mr. Price about Mr. Sanders. “Mrs. Clinton had better get out here.”

Date: 2015-06-02 01:51 am (UTC)1. Wasn't Obama the almost hopeless candidate at the bottom of the pack in 2008?
Hillary was fully expected to win the nomination on 2008. Do you think the factor this time
is Bernie Saunders started relatively later. in terms to when Obama started his campaign for the 2008 election?
2. Do you have a count of the super-delegates count for 2015 ? I know that super-delegates were a big factor in the 2008 nomination going to Barak Obama instead of Hillary Clinton..

Date: 2015-06-02 11:47 am (UTC)Still, Obama was/is much more mainstream with a much better control on his communications and agenda than Sanders is/has been, and his base of support is just much smaller.
2) I haven't seen any raw numbers, but people have been talking about it for a while now (www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/11/hillary-clinton-2016-superdelegates-endorse). I think the establishment Democrats are, frankly, afraid of the Clinton machine this time given that it's possibly their last shot, and they don't want to be frozen out if she does win. Very Obama-esque, in a sense.
