GOP hopefuls, part 5: Ben Carson

Since he's apparently now a frontrunner, it's time to take a swing at do a post on Ben Carson.



Despite being a truly brilliant (no sarcasm here, folks) brain surgeon, Dr. Carson has a track record of saying some pretty outrageous things.

Like this:



And these little zingers aimed at women:





And don't even get him started on LGBT issues.



Because being gay is a choice, y'all.



Of course, he did try to weasel out of that last one...sort of.



Yep, he just keeps 'em coming....



And let's not forget the whole hypocrisy issue.



You just can't stop yourself, can you, Dr. Carson?



That's right, you're a brain surgeon. And you belong in the operating room, where you can make a REAL contribution to the human race.

I'm not sure I would be surprised. The higher up a medico is on the pay scale, the more prestige that carries. From my experience with such folks, prestige is a lofty place that allows one to rub elbows with other folks with like prestige.

It's a kind of filter bubble that allows the cray cray to emerge. All that entitlement. What to do with it?

I suppose I can begin to understand the libertarianism, but the biblical fundamentalism - abortion and gay rights - is more startling, I think.

The more I think about it, the more I agree.

Years ago, my husband worked at a hospital (not patient care, but AV services in the education dept.), and I remember him commenting on surgeons and their huge egos. The stereotype of the surgeon who thinks s/he's God is absolutely true, according to him.

AND there's a food chain of surgeons, of which neurosurgeons are pretty much at the top of the heap. So a guy like Carson probably does think he's God, and no one around him is going to be doing anything to make him think otherwise.

So yeah, connecting all of these dots is making me see Carson in a whole new light!
