and so many people were like, "I can't believe she complained! Just don't buy it! Don't expect stores to parent your kid!" ugh. i find it kindof obnoxious that its so much for women like that, but for kids? females are more than walking sex ffs
The picture in the article contrasting boys' and girls' costumes for firefighters and police officers really does seem like a parody making fun of the sexualization of Halloween. It doesn't seem really controversial to say that such in grade schoolers is a bit heavyhanded, and maybe a little disturbing.
I see the pictures of the comparison and wonder why they don't just have the same costumes, just modeled by different sexes. I mean come on! girls don't even have different bodies that young!
The disparity in warmth kind of appalls me for children's costumes; it was just above freezing last year. Most of the girls have skirts, while the boys have no problems layering underneath pants.
Its not like real female and male cop/firefighter uniforms are different from each other. I don't know why the costumes had to be gnedered in the first place. And fine if adults want to dress like strippers but for kids? Ugh
These days I REALLY miss the vinyl halloween costumes we had in the 70's and 80's. They were basically just an apron that tied in the back (and we often used old ones for art aprons) with a plastic mask. Nothing even remotely sexual about most of them. Wonder woman might have been a little, but that would be it.
