I get the stuff written on the girl's face are examples of privileges Blacks do not have and whites do have, so taken from Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack, by Peggy McIntosh. But I don't get the 'black mob violence,' and how I'm responsible for it. What black mob violence? Can someone explain this one to me without being a dick about it? Thanks.
Black folk are rightfully outraged and have been pushed over the edge not only by white privilege but by institutionalized aggression against them in the forms of government policy, policing, the courts, and daily indignities they have suffered. The resulting black mob violence which is becoming epidemic across the US is a natural, justifiable reaction to this.
I was thinking about it for awhile and thought of Ferguson and was like "ooohhh...."
I agree totally. And I also think there's a bigger broader issue that over-encompasses all of it - the police are soundly part of our military industrial complex now, and behave not as citizens protecting a neighbor and making friends with that neighbor but rather as a soldier occupying enemy territory. My heart and soul is a part of these riots.
Exactly. You'd rather see more of the violence targeting police and institutions rather than civilians like at state fairs and such, but it is what it is.
Whites riot over pumpkins in NH and Twitter turns it into epic lesson about Ferguson (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/10/whites-riot-over-pumpkins-in-nh-and-twitter-turns-it-into-epic-lesson-about-ferguson/)
If white people continue to glorify pumpkin violence in their culture they deserve the spice-latte thug stereotypes. pic.twitter.com/VI8USeI9Mq (http://t.co/VI8USeI9Mq)

there's also the fact that what is called a protest when white people do it is called a riot when black people do it. or how after a national disaster white people find resources but black people are accused of looting for doing the same thing. so when i read phrases like "black mob violence" i suspect it's referring to peaceful black protests. (with violence being provided by the militarized police force being sent in to break it up)
I don't agree with this completely. I do agree that there is racial profiling and frequently different treatment based on race, but that is also true of other characteristics such as sex, sexual persuasion, body type, religion...basically anything that can be considered "other" by a group. In other words, everyone is a target of someone. Yes, some is definitely worse than others, and specific crimes need to be addressed legally and socially. However, no one is excused from behaving in a constructive and compassionate manner. Rioting, by anyone, adds hatred and violence to an already destructive situation. It's irresponsible and an abdication of one's human goodness.
