So I guess having two absentee moderators is pretty much worthless. I'm taking nominations to add another couple to the list. I apologize for all but abandoning LJ.
Thinking more about it, you're probably the only halfway qualified person who spends much time here that would also be tolerated by most of the membership. I nominate hardblue.
I hate to make this personal, Jeff, but I think the only reason you're suggesting Hardblue is because you've learned that he's particularly susceptible to your brand of manipulation. I am virtually certain that you would use the respect that he retains for your views in order to manipulate him to moderate this community in a way that you would personally deem appropriate. But we know exactly what happens when a community is moderated in that way. It dies.
ETA: Others might be interested to know that Jeff had originally affirmed Hardblue's suggestion of Yes_Justice. I'm not sure why he's chosen to withdraw that affirmation, though I might speculate it's for the reason I've articulated.
Actually, my name really should be crossed off any list. I am terrible with any responsibility, and although I have been playing here pretty consistently for the past several months, I can easily become an absentee guy tomorrow.
Well, you were the one who somehow came to the conclusion that he was a professional pollster whose absence in this community was due to his election-related activities in real life.
It's true. I do think he's a bright guy, albeit unfortunately, perhaps tragically, ideological. It's kind of funny, though, in that Jeff and I have had some cross, heated threads, such that I once thought I made it into your club of those who are to be ignored by him.
Aside from Jeff, though, you are more spot on about me not even being up to being an LJ mod. It's so true.
It's never been about the "heat," with him. You can see how he continues to engage with Deborah, despite the fact that she never responds to him with anything other than an insult.
Do you think it is just about being able to consistently 'best him', to call him out on his con? I take it you don't buy into the theory that the club is for those who attack him and his family personally.
You already know it's not "the club for those who attack him and his family personally." The only person he routinely ignores who he's accused of doing so is Farchivist, who for her part has denied it, so without direct evidence you're forced to choose whom to believe. He's also said that's not the reason he ignores me.
I don't buy into Farchivist's theory that it's about ignoring people who can "best him," but I think it's quite plain that he has an agenda in the way that he engages this community.
If I dropped everyone who went after me personally, there'd be no one left to debate with. I have a very bright line, that's all.
It's probably telling that the amount of insults levied on various people here - including myself - have been tolerated by our mostly-absentee mod staff here, and that many of those same offenders are then nominated by their peers in part because that's what they'd prefer. To your credit, you've essentially avoided that sort of nastiness and appear to be able to see through it - that would make you a much better moderator on the merits alone than those who encourage and take part in the nonsense.
As long as one's psychologizing about what the members of this community wants - because that's exactly what you're doing here, at the same time you're complaining about being psychologized by this community's members - we might ask what the apparent consensus preference for Yes_justice would suggest.
Say what you like about the "nominations" of me or Malasadas (or merely insinuate, as you'd prefer), I think it's unfair to Yes_justice to lump his general commendation here with the notion that this community's nominations suggest a preference for "the amount of insults levied on various people here." As far as I've seen, Yes_justice hasn't participated in those kinds of attacks, and I haven't seen him approve of them, either. So while your criticism may have some merit vis-a-vis, in particular, Unnamed and Deborah's suggestion of me (I think the nominations of Malasadas make more sense, since he's generally demonstrated a mature approach to moderation that's shown a willingness to use discipline to control flamewars, even if he's otherwise made a habit of antagonizing you specifically (especially by assiduously ignoring you)), it's disrespectful to both Yes_justice and this community to make his nomination really all about you and the way you feel you've been mistreated.
I don't know how many times you expect to be able to tell the members of this community, "Fuck all of you, you miserable cretins," without it coming back to you.

You should nominate [Bad username or site: Trog. @ livejournal.com]. Speaking of which, I don't see him around. I wonder if he ever took up beekeeping.
