What about hospitals? Firepeople? Orphanages and group homes? Prisons? (Excuse the fact there is so much fuckery with the prison system - that's besides the point).

Not trying to be a dick, I just read an article once on what it would do to the economy and us if EVERYONE were to not work on labor day. Or any day for that matter. One day does a surprising amount of damage.

I actually meant to add those examples as caveats. Unfortunately, those kind of services are around the clock, year-round. However, there is no reason for Wal-Mart, for example, to be open on a day like this.
