That could be a tall order for Oakland. Worth a try, though. There always seem to be idiots who think that they can keep control of their personal fireworks, or that bullets fired into the air magically disappear.
Also, I read that first as "celebrity gunfire." Not such a good idea either.
Celebratory gunfire isn't really a problem where I live, but illegal fireworks are. As I sat in my bedroom last night listening to the *boom boom boom* of various neighbors setting off fireworks, I was wishing to hell the cops would actually ENFORCE the damned laws against such things.
(And before you ask, no, I did not call it in, ONLY because it was too hard to tell where the various booms were coming from. I couldn't have told the cops WHERE the law was being broken, just that it was within earshot of my home. I didn't think they would be willing to go looking based on such vague information.)
It doesn't help that we're half an hour from the WI state line, where fireworks are sold quite legally. I wouldn't care about the fireworks laws in another state if the fireworks would STAY in that state, but of course, they don't. Anyone around here who wants to disturb the peace by breaking the fireworks law in IL only needs to take a short drive to load up on crap to shoot off. Dammit.
