If more "Americans" are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.

She has more where that comes from.

I don't watch soccer because it's a sport and well... I hate sports.

I was confused at the end where Mr. Cleese said "...something completely different" and the music didn't start.

A few people that I work with have slowly gotten me into watching this and the Revs. Does anyone else here watch a soccer team at all? I'm not really a big football fan and this is kind of new and exciting for me.

I've been peripherally interested for a while (USA's run in the 2002 cup had a lot to do with that), and have only started (loosely) following Major League Soccer and the English Premier League in the last year or two.

I've chosen the Seattle Sounders and West Ham United as my teams, because I do not make good decisions.

I've followed World Cup soccer since 2002. I spent the weeks of the WC with my cousins who played competitive international soccer during High School, and they taught me a bit about the rules/players/etc. I was so hooked, that I remember getting up at 2 or 3 am to watch matches live, rather than the recordings later that night.

I live pretty far from a MLS market (KC/Chicago are both 5 hours away), and our cable package doesn't include the soccer networks, so I don't get to see as many matches as I like. I have extracted a promise from my mom (who I dragged into soccer during WC 06) that next season sometime we would go see family in KC and go to a match or two.

The only positive thing about being unemployed right now, is that at least I can watch the WC matches live. I even put the matches above baseball games, and I've loved my Cardinals since before I was born really. It takes a lot to get me to watch anything else in the summer.

Eh, she's probably too old to have grown up playing youth soccer. I don't think she realizes how out of touch she is.

Why would she want to realize that. Being out of touch makes her a great living.

I apologise for not commenting on the topic raised in the post, but rather would like to point out to the moderator, as well as other commentators, that this group is not following it's pledge to let its members "discuss politics in an open manner". In fact quite the opposite - it is rigorously censored, which you wouldn't have a way to know until you become a victim. My postings of IDENTICAL format were deleted numerous times due to the allegedly ... unacceptable format :). Moreover for allegedly violating rule No. 8 of the group (re the format) I was BANNED from making any further posts. And my sin was? Not supporting US disastrous (if not criminal) actions in Ukraine.

I would like to thank the moderator for confirming my suspicions that his/her decision on my account had purely political reasons, that this group has rigorous censorship performed by narrow minded people. And with "moderators" like this the US has more chances to become like Ukraine, than Ukraine like the US.

P.S. I know, I know any criticism of "wrong people" here is viewed as "personal attacks", and will ban you as well! Who cares.

Technically "soccer" is correct as it is short for "association football" in Britain and rugby is also a kind of football. "American football" is actually "Hand Egg" however and it is like watching a violent human chess match with endless timeouts. I find it boring, I like soccer and I think hockey > all.

There's been a movement to call it "futbol" here - like McDonald's does right now - or maybe that's just because there are a lot of Mexicans where I live.

I love the World Cup. But my great-grandparents weren't born here. Coulter is a troll anyway.
