It's not even quite that.

There is several groups that will improve your life. But the ways the system is set up, they have a less then zero chance of being elected.
There is one group who will tell you how they follow the Ancient Teachings and know the best ways... then ignore them and just openly shovel tons of money to the very richest.
There is another group who says they will do the best for you and yours... then ignore that and openly shovel money to the very richest... and then maybe sprinkle a few crumbs for everyone else.

We have a future. Not sure what'll look like, but it will probably involve re-learning a lot of lessons the previous generations learned before us, but our parent's generation has largely forgotten/chosen to ignore.
