It was a Republican plan, I think a baby of the Heritage Foundation. That was just the most that Democrats could hope for in the way of universal healthcare.
Wouldn't bother me even if it was real. Obama's not the problem with the ACA... it's keeping all the insurance companies in the mix. If Obama would have been able to do what he really wanted, I think we'd have a single-payer thing going on and I honestly think that would have been better. MUCH better.
People like Rush Limbaugh say the ACA sucks on purpose, so that when single-payer comes along we'll be happy. Right-wing people don't like a single-payer idea so they get upset about that. But me? I kind of hope that happens, heh.
Wow you have brain damage too? They didn't "shoot it down" they decided it wasn't worth the fight. You seem to forget the million dollars per day spent on negative advertising.
""The fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the United States Senate for the public option," Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), a key Finance Committee healthcare negotiator, told "Fox News Sunday."
Also here's an interesting and totally unsurprising article: http://mediamatters.org/blog/2010/12/09/leaked-email-fox-boss-caught-slanting-news-repo/174090
And none of this explains why, when Dems couldn't get something better than the status quo, they enthusiastically embraced something worse than the status quo. The inevitable complete failure of the ACA is not going to make Americans turn to socialized medicine as a solution. If anything, voters are going to reject government involvement in health care entirely, and things are going to get even worse.
All according to the billionaires' plan. While you were looking at the elephant puppet, the donkey puppet picked your pocket.
You'r "So you" totally doesn't follow. You completely skipped over all the evidence that showed how much of a fight there was then claimed there was no fight. I'd be embarrassed doing that in public.
There was a fight and democrats gave up so they could get the rest of the stuff passed.
It will be better than the status quo. It gets insurance for a few million Americans and hopefully in the long run will reduce prices for those who have a hard time affording healthcare. It's not some miracle cure for our medical ills and there's plenty of better alternatives that may eventually be plausible when conservatives realize that the minor change we made so far doesn't cause a communist invasion of demon-nazis.
What evidence? The articles you linked showed Democrats paying lip service to the idea and then abandoning it. Democrats held a majority in the Senate. If there weren't enough votes for a public option in the Senate, it's because the Democrats didn't want it!
"It gets insurance for a few million Americans"
...and royally fucks the rest.
"hopefully in the long run will reduce prices"
"Hope" is right, because there's no realistic theory for how that would happen.
"when conservatives realize that the minor change we made so far doesn't cause a communist invasion"
The absolute disaster that this "minor" change is proving to be is going to give conservatives all the political ammunition they need to prevent the government from trying to help anyone for decades.
Royally fucks the rest? Funny. Everyone I have personally talked to has come out of this better off, But they hadn't fallen for an insurance scam like the catastrophic plans, that are not really insurance at all.
