StormTrooper Vs. Red Shirt

This is how the willingly ignorant or naive believes wars are fought.

Nowadays, wars are fought by someone sitting down in a room. Thousands of miles away, a wedding suddenly gets blown up.

That movie sucked and deserved to die, even IF you ignored that it was a Card property. Because it was a terrible movie, even if you ignore Card.

As it was, Card's "Hitler was totally a good guy and deserved forgiveness" novel got a shit-tastic box office, and the only people I feel remotely bad about for that are Asa Butterfield (who couldn't possibly have turned it down and kept a career), John Scalzi (whose Old Man's War movie treatment now suffers because "audiences don't like sci-fi"), and Orson That Fascist Asshole Scott Card, who got paid for Ender's Game The Movie *and* has sold many more copies of the book, despite being Modern Sci-Fi's Greatest Asshole. This is a dude who manages, by his fingertips, to be a worse person than Tom Kratman, and he got PAID for that.

I wasn't going anywhere near the film. Oddly not any of his books either. I used to be heavy into science fiction but people would rave about Ender's Game and I was "Nope." Felt the same way about my mom's copies of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. Ayn Rand creeped me out before I had any idea why.

We already had Enders Game in the 1980s. It was called "The Last Starfighter"

Eh, it wasn't as bad as all of that. It was kind of slow, but they did a good job of building up a "yeah we're going to go kick ass!" tone, then bursting it with the anticlimax. It gives the audience a feeling of "Is this what you wanted? Drink it in, you monsters." when they explain that the bugs went to colonize a planet they didn't know had sentient life then left it alone ever since, and we come commit genocide against them in the name of "defense".

Its a good movie in the same way that Starship Troopers was a good movie, but a lot more overt in its intentions.
