One of those tea party chairmen who just resigned for sending totally not racist but racist comics around, claimed it was "Teasing Obama's white half".
The one on the left obviously stole that suit. You can tell because it's ever-so-slightly too big across the shoulders.
And the guy in the middle stole that beanie, because no teenager, regardless of skin colour, would wear that willingly, unless it was a badge of honour.
Well, it doesn't appear to be Savile Row, so, I suppose a member of the Yoof might just about be able to afford it if he had a Saturday job and no children to support.
But I don't know why we're confusing the issue. They are all guilty of being non-White.
The best part (meaning the worst part) is the comments in all of these articles where someone with real experience of being discriminated against will point out the systemic institutionalized racism in our society and some asshole will chime in with accusations that the person complaining is somehow the real racist.
Because complaining about racism makes you a racist, right? The idea that a black person, complaining about the way they are systematically discriminated against by a system that privileges white skin, is somehow the racist one for pointing real racism out should not be an actual commonly seen thing people are saying unironically.
Wow... people are really stretching these days for something to flip their shit over. Nothing in that GOP tweet says or implies that ending racism is not an ongoing process.
My understanding is that "ending racism" is an -ing verb form(Present participle?); where the verb, "to end", modifies the noun, "racism". Given the definition of end as a verb is "to come or bring to a final point; finish", one could reasonably infer that the tweet implies that racism has ended. One could chalk this up to a slip of the keyboard, but it is pretty obvious that many on the Right don't think racism has ended.
White Republicans, Southern evangelicals most likely to claim reverse discrimination, research finds (http://phys.org/news/2013-01-white-republicans-southern-evangelicals-reverse.html)
You're right, it's a present participle. Definition (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/present_participle): "A verb form that indicates an ongoing action or state in the present . . ."
What some people in a class think doesn't give you the right to assume what all people in that class think. I thought liberals were supposed to be the ones that understood this.
My understanding is that that convention doesn't hold. "The truth is, the present participle really doesn't mark time at all. That job is reserved for the main verb and its auxiliaries. And for this reason, many linguists prefer to use the term -ing form rather than present participle." (http://grammar.about.com/od/irregularverbs/a/What-Is-A-Present-Participle-FAQ.htm)
I didn't say all. I didn't even say most. I said many. And then I provided a poll supporting the assertion. To be fair that poll happened before Obama took over. A more recent poll finds that 60% of Republicans think discrimination against whites is as big a problem as discrimination against minority groups. (http://www.brookings.edu/research/reports/2011/09/06-american-attitudes)
Also, I wouldn't really classify myself as ideologically liberal. Failing like it's your job.

Well, excuse me for assuming that you thought the facts you were posting had some relevance to the topic at hand. Whatever you personally think, the point is that people are stereotyping conservatives and stretching the English language when they assume the GOPs tweet was meant to imply that racism is over. What's the point of the statistics you're posting, if they're not an attempt to justify that?
Aaaaaand... you still don't get it. What "many on the right think" does not allow you to draw any conclusions about the intended meaning of that tweet — especially conclusions that differ from its literal and well-understood meaning.
"What "many on the right think" does not allow you to draw any conclusions about the intended meaning of that tweet " I never did that. What I said was "obviously Republicans don't believe racism is over," and then I pointed to examples of their belief in racism as they think it exists. That statement does not prognosticate on some tweet's intent and actually lines up with what you're spouting off. I find it hard to believe that a super-genius, such as yourself, could make such an improper inference.
"especially conclusions that differ from its literal and well-understood meaning." For one, I've already shown why it's literal meaning could be reasonably understood to mean exactly what many people understood it to be. For another, the GOP's intentions are only pertinent in so far as Republicans, with their new found intent to reach minorities, crafted a message that could rightly be interpreted as a racially tone-deaf, indifferent Republican caricature. I.e. precisely the opposite of their intent. This is the literal definition of irony. Bonus points because social media. People aren't flipping their shit. They're laughing at Republicans for failing so hard, so publicly. It's akin to a Bush-ism, a pic of Michele Bachmann blowing a corndog, and to a lesser degree whatever it is you think you're doing right now.
I have to flounce for a few days now, but keep fucking that chicken!
Yeah, the guy in the suit is certainly dangerous looking. It's the glasses. Ditto for the kid in the silly hat. Hats with pompoms are the new gang street clothes. Now the one with the mustache - everyone knows that only criminals have mustaches And he's wearing a hoodie, what more do you need to know?
(Seriously, this makes we want to cry, or punch someone.)
“They just pulled us out of the car and put our hands behind our backs like we were criminals,” added Hurd.
“The officer asked me 'who’s the girl?' and I said 'she’s my student,'” said Hurd.
Holy fucking shit. That's like something straight outta the 1960s. At least it got some press - It would have passed unnoticed in days gone by.
Here's what the cops had to say when they were questioned (http://www.khou.com/news/local/HPD-responds-to-accusations-of-racial-profiling-with-Oklahoma-teen-dancers-234176921.html):
In a statement, HPD said, “Given the age discrepancies...and the child had no relatives in the area, officers in an abundance of caution, did their utmost to ensure her safety” and sent her to CPS.
There is certainly an age difference, but I sorta doubt that the incident would have taken place had the gents been Asian or White.
