outside? to the bookstore or library? to meet a friend for lunch? at a nice coffee shop?

Everyone has their "comfy clothes" and there's nothing wrong with that. What I'm talking about is the decision to wear the *same* beat-up crappy looking comfy clothes regardless of the environment every. single. day..

to work.........

but not every day. I usually only wear them because I hate doing laundry and everything else is dirty. It's also a wake up call; when people can see my undies through my clothes, it's time to clean.

I have personal reasons why I don't want to see it in certain circumstances, but if it irks me, why do YOU give a shit?

So I assume we can use the same argument for racists?

wow, my opinion on an inanimate object disturbs you so much you compare it to racism? For serious?

Don't act like it's the shorts that bug you. It's the people wearing the shorts. And yes, this makes you a judgmental schmuck.

actually no, its the state of the shorts which gives lie to the attitude of the male wearing them. This is, as we said, males only.

As I said, I have personal reasons I don't like to see goofy guys wearing DECREPIT cargo shorts. Generally speaking my experience is that they tend to be smug entitled jerks who yell a lot. They figure the rules of society don't apply to them so why change their FALLING-APART clothing to something a bit more appropriate. Wearing casual clothing that is FRAYED AND TORN is a signal that

1) you dont' have the money to repair or buy new ones and you have no other clothes which means you're probably desititute and I could figure that out anyway because you probably have a full beard too and scraggly in general in which case I feel rather differently about you and your shorts and you no longer fall into that category

2) you don't give a flying fig whether you look like shit because the world rolls a red carpet out for you anyway

This is not me despising men who wearing shorts. This is a specific type of ATTITUDE that is chosen for reasons personal. A hoodie is utilitarian. A turban is symbolic and of religious significance depending on your belief system. A burka/hijab/niqab is as well.
There's lots of cultural clothing and I have no problem with any of them.

I have a problem with the most pampered segment of the population walking around looking crappy in inappropriate circumstances then getting all snitty about it.

You wanna tell me I'm a racist and/or islamophobe? Well okay, I guess you feel pretty good about now.

...oh and when your shorts are significantly frayed and you wear them anyway? You probably wear them past the point of smelling nice as well. YMMV

I do exactly that, I admit. In my defense, they stopped selling the kind I like, so. . . . It's either that or go too hot in long pants.

Oh, and I'm broke.
