I don't know. It's a good question: how broad and sweeping the gulf? So long as we have drastic differences in such measures as income and incarceration rates, I suppose the chasm would have to remain fairly wide, even if you do have a more racially diverse mix at the top of the social order.

It serves as a lesson that hitting on people who are literally trapped in a small enclosed space at 4am is not considered cool.

Sure, because you're in the same circles she is ideologically. The point of asking is the assumption that what Rebecca Watson says on the matter = what everyone should assume is the preferred response.

To be candid my first response was that is reasonable advice from one woman, and I can empathize with her on not wanting to be sexually advanced upon in a confined situations by strangers. I just took it as advice. Didn't expect the backlash at all.

I personally can't imagine approaching anyone in an elevator period, either, but I'm not that type of person. Others may be, on both ends of the spectrum.
