Here's a nice sample "budget journal" for McDonalds’ employees to help them budget and live off their wages.

I like how there's a space for a second job - a second full time job at that. I also liked the $600 a month for rent. Where? Only if you live in apartment with more roommates then bedrooms, the whole idea of it being a mortgage is just laughable. No money for heat, none for transportation/gas, and the real kicker...$20 for health insurance?!? Sign me up for that!!! Even if you over look that, any money for co-pays or medicine is budgeted. I guess that comes out of the "monthly spending money" along with toiletries, shoes and clothing, other necessities and, oh, you know, food.

Hope you're single and don't ever plan on having kids! I mean, you shouldn't, considering you're working 80 hours on this "budget" and sure can't afford childcare.

Read the whole article and comments here.

Their, "monthly spending money," is more than my monthly income.

Since they didn't include a line item for gasoline or car maintenance would come out of "spending money." (I'm sure they're not going to be driving a new car, so expecting repairs and upkeep seems reasonable). There's also nothing allocated for food either.

It's hardly living the life of Riley.

Well McDonald's does give you uniforms and you can just eat nothing but delicious Big Macs. Seems reasonable.

Actually, (last I checked) you can either have one meal per shift or a laundry service do your uniform, but not both.

I mean, I suppose they might have suggested that employees plant their own gardens to save money on food, but we do not sow.

Where's the section for how much your employer takes for bullshit charges when paying employees with "paycards"?

Not to mention the $150 a month car payment. First- any car that costs $150 a month probably isn't worth owning. Second, you'll spend that in fuel alone. Or auto insurance, if your $100 a month for insurance is tied up in other places- like health insurance for your children, for example.

It's like whoever came up with this is some upper middle-class HR stuffed shirt with equally middle-class upbringing or something. And that brings me to the health insurance issue- how the Hell do you get $20 a month health insurance?! Man, let me in that pool!
