"Critics of Section 5 . . . point to high voter registration rates among blacks and the re-election of a black president as proof that the provision is no longer needed."
A black president who seems to hate every minority except women. I guess it doesn't matter who gets to vote if this is what's on offer.

With Republicans openly saying that the more minorities vote, the worse it is for them, and trying to block minorities from voting, it is still very much needed.
There's a strategy behind Republicans openly saying things like that. It motivates idiots who call themselves liberals to stubbornly defend Democrats who act like Republicans.
Then how do you explain the idiots who call themselves conservative and back up and support with the Republicans who act like racist, selfish, greedy, assholes?
I see no explanation for any of it... I think politics, corporations, man made buildings, etc. should just be abolished and we should go back to the days of farming and hunting for wildlife like back in the day. Not really, but that's probably the only way to fix everything that's wrong with the country.
My favorite commentary on the Paul Deen thing yet:
"Screw you, Paula.
Okay, here’s how Paula Deen hurt me personally. All week long I have been hearing commentators on teevee say that using the N word should be expected from “Southern white women of a certain age.” I even heard one say it was “understandable.”
Hell, no. I don’t know where these commentators got that but they need to put it down right now and never touch it again.
I am Paula Deen’s age and I live in the South. I have not used the N word since I was 6 years old (I heard it at school) and my Irish grandma swatted my bottom for saying it. I was told that words like that do not come out of a lady’s mouth and that Jesus loves all the little children — red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight. I was told to say “colored.”
I never said it again. I was 17 years old when Dr. Martin Luther King won the Nobel Peace Prize. So was Paula Deen. So, if she used that word after 1964, shame on her. She knew full well that she should not be saying that.
But now, when people look at me, they think I talk like Paula Deen, but should be forgiven for it based on my age and my birthplace. No.
Paula Deen knew for a damn fact that those words were hurtful and not acceptable. My grandmother, rest her precious soul, would have stomped her and said indignantly, “And she calls herself a lady?”
My friend Laura sent me this to read. You will feel far less sympathy for Deen after reading this.
So, Paula, screw you. Not all Southern women of a certain age are a bunch of classless witches.
Ugh, I still don't really understand this: did she actually say it recently, or only back in the '60s? (Not that saying it back then was ok either, but that's a different kind of outrage, and an apology for THAT might be forgiven in light of how she lived her life since then - continuing to say it today and then "apologizing" is a totally different thing.) The only articles I've been able to find keep quoting her "admission" which seems to only admit to saying it a long time ago... have there been allegations of it being more recent?
I didn't say racism doesn't exist. I didn't say it isn't still a problem. But what I am saying, clearly and unequivocally, is that we're nowhere near as bad about it as in 1965. Not. Anywhere. Close.

Sorry I don't buy it.
Maybe there's some unintended benefit, but not for a moment do I think that was there game plan from the get-go.

That’s what I have to say about Paula Deen."
