Wow, Latvia has a female president - that's pretty amazing. I'm interested in how their government compares to ours... I see that Latvia is a parliamentary democracy (more info (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/lg.html)), while the USA is a constitutional republic. Maybe we shouldn't be the ones spreading "democracy?" haha.
That's cool. Every country has their issues... but it's good they at least can keep it to themselves rather than causing trouble elsewhere. :) It seems like going from USSR to democracy would be a huge jump and would take a while to work out the kinks.
This is random, but my favorite NHL goalie (Arturs Irbe) is actually from Latvia, and I think he was pretty involved with demonstrations there to win their freedom.
