It's kind of funny to call the Latvian President "that woman in the background".

She's catching on quick though, Latvia should be proud... or something.

I was so caught up on her smirk that I didn't pay attention to who she was...

Wow, Latvia has a female president - that's pretty amazing. I'm interested in how their government compares to ours... I see that Latvia is a parliamentary democracy (more info (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/lg.html)), while the USA is a constitutional republic. Maybe we shouldn't be the ones spreading "democracy?" haha.

Latvia has their own issues though, which are well kept inside the boarders of their country. =] It is however incredible progress they've made.

That's cool. Every country has their issues... but it's good they at least can keep it to themselves rather than causing trouble elsewhere. :) It seems like going from USSR to democracy would be a huge jump and would take a while to work out the kinks.

This is random, but my favorite NHL goalie (Arturs Irbe) is actually from Latvia, and I think he was pretty involved with demonstrations there to win their freedom.
