The child has 1 soul right now (baby on right) but if it's allowed to grow up, it'll have many more souls via devouring innocents (vampire on left). So, it could have either 1 soul or a billion.
The situation that I had in mind was that of conjoined twins, and whether its fetus should be aborted. There is a less malevolent depiction of conjoined twins on display at the Ripley's Believe It of Not Museum in Baltimore. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bill_angel/7177125939/) Even if the child does survive to adulthood, should its future be that of an attraction in a Freak Show?
I see that several posters have interpreted "soul" as having a meaning akin to "soul brother". So one might therefore assert that this monster (below) has "soul" from only one person. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/stoweboyd/3061342398/) Still is from the movie "The Thing with Two Heads"
“In each of us, two natures are at war – the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer. But in our own hands lies the power to choose – what we want most to be, we are.” ― Robert Louis Stevenson
Hopefully you are aware that Stevenson was the author of "Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_Case_of_Dr_Jekyll_and_Mr_Hyde)
Thanks for bringing that case up. According to the WIKI article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abigail_and_Brittany_Hensel " They appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on April 8 and April 29, 1996. In April 1996, the twins were featured on the cover of Life Magazine under the caption 'One Body, Two Souls'."
There's also Lori and George Schappell, Ronnie and Donnie (I am blanking on their surname), and in the past there were Violet and Daisy Hilton, Chang and Eng Bunker, Masha and Dasha from the Ukraine, and there were some ladies conjoined at the skull that were local to me when I was young, I can't remember their names though.
n.b. none of the aforementioned people had the unique conjoinment of the Hensel women, though, which seems to be featured in that doll.
This doll is a ripoff of a monster in a Vampi comic from a few years back, except that one was Frankensteined out of identical twins first before one of them was turned into a vampire and I thought damn, this is the greatest thing I ever done seen.
When I worked in a comic shop ('75-6), we had a poster of her, about four feet tall at least, on the inside of the back door. It was very inspirational.
Then of course there's the 2 headed alien in "Star Wars The Phantom Menace“. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fodesinbeed_Annodue While I find Star Wars very entertaining, one would I think be hard pressed to come up with a plausible biological explanation for a creature possessing 2 heads from 2 different species.
