I think these kinds of things are the remnants of the days when men plowed fields and killed wild animals and women raised children and did household chores all day. It takes a long time to purge these sorts of self-perpetuating aspects of the human condition. I mean, we're still saddled with religion and government despite more than 6000 years of destruction they've caused. I think things will continue improving for women as time goes on and we mature as a species. But yeah, this is pretty bad.

It's no coincidence that the states that passed suffrage laws first were all pioneer states that required "equal" work from women out in the field.

Oh don't even get me started. My sister is in pre med and she was told by a male speaker how hard it is for women to be accepted in the medical field and how they have to dress a certain way to be taken seriously. By that they meant she needed to wear skirts instead of slacks. Can you imagine a school like UB encouraging this sort of bullshit?

But yeah, I am not that surprised with those statistics. I have a high mountain to climb...

*Sigh*

And then of course female scientists have to make sure they only work hard enough to be seen as equal to male collegues, not better. Unless they want to deal with jealous co-workers trying to sabotage their work.

They found a similar result when they did a similar experiment with racially identifiable names: both black and white HR managers preferred candidates with "white" (actually, Jewish) names.
