Sure, they look harmless, but in the hands of a black or relatively swarthy person, Skittles + Sweet Tea combine to form a deadly WMD.
There is another case I read about today where an interrupted car thief ran, was chased and stabbed to death and this was dismissed as self-defense. That's how amazing this Stand and Deliver law stuff is. "Your honor, I felt my safety was threatened by the person running away from me so I ran them down and stabbed them to death. You know, before they killed me - which I'm sure they could have done despite the whole 'back turned and running away' part."
In Michigan, with the exception of being within your own home, you are legally obligated to attempt to withdraw before using your handgun. I can't imagine what's going on in Florida's handgun laws that makes anyone even pause for a moment over this case.
A bad joke. When you fire a weapon, the explosive gasses shoving the bullet from the barrel of the gun also create a strong backward push against the person holding the weapon, which might cause them to have to take a step back... It would essentially happen at the same time that you fired. So... it probably wouldn't count, intent and all that. But technically, at the point it occurred, no damage would have happened to the attacker... It makes about as much sense as the logic in a lot of these stand your ground laws.
if Captain Kirk can make a gun out of powder and a tree, this guy could totally destroy the entire block with skittles and ice tea. HAS NO ONE SEEN THE HORROR OF MENTOS AND COKE???
