The debt crisis in America is entirely the Democrats' fault, yet the press only blames the GOP. Meanwhile, Uncle Sam is too stupid to see what's really going on.
This debt ceiling crisis? Not the fault of the Republicans
And that's really how you see it? Congress has never had a problem with this debt ceiling business until now. This has always been automatic under Bush, for instance, when the budget was really being blown out. And it wasn't a problem before. The sorts of political issues dealing with spending are better handled when they do the budget, not when it comes to the good faith and credit of the United States. The 'Tea Party', I take it, are the ones who wanted to try some new politics and to play chicken.
So it was the Democrats that decided that they wouldn't approve raising the debt ceiling, thus driving the national car to the brink of Default Cliff?
Or are you saying that only Democrats have ever contributed to the national debt? That only Democrats have ever passed an unbalanced budget? Or that only Democrats have ever increased spending?
Really?! Cos even conservative media hosts are freely admitting that this 'crisis' was created the GOP. The tea partiers would be in a bulldozer behind the car pushing it forward, while the donkey has his foot on the brake.
It's just the Koch brothers letting everyone know that the congressmen they purchased can bring our government to its knees.

Rupert Murdoch and the Koch brothers duking it out to see who owns the Republican party? FUN!
There is an interesting split going on for sure. It will be interesting to see where Ales ends up in the mix. He's employed by Murdoch but much more a crazy.
If one thing that the US has got from the whole phone hacking scandal it was a very interesting look in to Newscorp. I didn't know for instance, that Murdoch's kids, who stand to inheret the world, are fairly liberal. I didn't know that the Murdochs don't like Ales very much. If it wasn't for Fox being the main moneymaker he'd be out on the street, but instead though they fear him, he's in a position of a lot of power.
Both sides are equally as guilty of brinkmanship. They're playing that same old game of waiting until the very last minute to get the best possible deal for their team.
The analogy of speeding toward a cliff might be accurate, but the cliff is a million miles away. The actual crisis would be more like running out of gas on the way there. The ratings agency and market shake-ups were solely the result of the political theater we've all been witnessing.
Even if the metaphor is close to accurate, it would have to be extended to indicate that the elephant is still perfectly happy to let the car go off the cliff, rather than agree to extend the roadway enough to take control of the car ... and they kind of already have control of the car, which means the metaphor is even more fragile.
The whole cartoon is predicated on the GOP being reluctant to have the car go off the cliff.
But yes, going off the cliff would not hurt the GOPs constituency. It would further their aims of impoverishing every one but an elite few, destroying the middle class, restoring aristocracy and ensuring Obama was a one term president.
