Jon Stewart featured Representative Ryan's budget proposal chart on two segments last night.

Here is Ryan's original chart:

And the effects of his proposed budget cuts to Medicare, etc:

Jon Stewart's duplication of it:

Then Stewart shows the projected shortfall if the Bush tax cuts had not be enacted (i.e. without any deep cuts to entitlements)

Next up, we'll be seeing Republicans floating the idea of how much less our defecit would be if we would simply "reform" our population by just euthanizing the elderly, infirm, and poor.

BUT THINK OF THE COST SAVINGS OMGWTFBBWPONEES!!!!

How much would we save if we just eliminate the middleman and euthanize Congress instead?

i look forward to the day that policy gets prolife support. i bet they'd even support euthanizing the women incubators that wouldn't be able to pay for or sell their baby.

in some 30-40 years the debt is expected to be a steep, steady incline?

according to the chart (the mountain between 2011 and 2050) we're going to spend and spend and spend like mad until our debt is three times as big as what it was in WW2

"But look at where it's going" I'm getting a nose bleed just looking at it lol

Yeah I do see that now that I just saw the video (didn't see the link at first sorry). I'm still a little skeptical on the accuracy of Ryan's chart though... is it really going to be that dramatic of an increase in the future?

out of left field but related to the later videos, how is Trump expected to win by slamming a religion and going the birther route? If our country is going to be run by a reality tv star I'm going to literally hide under a rock for a full 8 years.

of course I don't know why I'm complaining at all, this would make the presidential race an easy loose for the Republicans.

Oh yes I can see it now:

it all depends on what you think the goals of his PR are. just look how far out there Charlie Sheen had to go before it fucked up his career. not sure if trump has found the Goldilocks zone for crazy tv personality yet or not.

when they typically reject CBO's statements on how effective the stimulus package was or in the health care debate.

How many times are you going to trot out this canard? It's not that conservatives reject the CBO on those issues, but simply cite what they do. The CBO did not count jobs in the stimulus, just ran numbers based on existing multipliers.

You're better than this.

Did you say "canard" because [livejournal.com profile] telemann is using the duckling icon?

Sure it is, because it was probably put together with the assumption that the Republicans will be in power for the next 40 years.

Given their track record of running on one thing and then doing something completely different (Hey where are the jobs?), they're pitching the lower part but planning for the upper chart.

You can't criticize Bush anymore haven't you heard? His term is passed so now you're just making excuses. Any bringing up of the Iraq war being an actual catastrophe or his policies being a bad idea is just trying to redirect blame and you should be equally critical of Obama. Or something.

Also we couldn't remember anything that happened over 4 years ago, it's a rule... I think?

Stewart's adjusted graph still shows that our spending will keep getting closer to WWII.
