Bill Maher wonders, how do we decide who gets to stay in politics after personal disasters, and those who are forced to leave. Consider: Nevada senator John Ensign (cheated on an aides wife and paid hush money to keep the affair quiet but didn't loose his job). John Edwards (cheated on his wife with cancer, and is no longer active in politics_, or former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer (visited prostitutes several times as Governor of New York), but then Senator David Vitter was caught ordering call girls via his cell phone on the floor of Congress, but he didn't loose his job.

I'm not exactly a fan of any cartoon where the cartoonist says "this is what this guy is REALLY saying."

Context: Prime Minister Harper recently made it a firing offence for anyone employed by the federal government to refer to it as the "Government of Canada". The correct terminology is now the "Harper Government".

Also, Mayor Ford of Toronto, a populist demagogue, has threatened to sic "Ford Nation" on Premier McGuinty in this fall's Ontario election if McGuinty doesn't give Ford lots of free money. Ford was elected after criticizing the previous mayor for asking the province for money. The coinage is a parallel on "Leafs Nation", a collective name for supporters of Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team.
