Oh this again, the great pissing match that is trying to argue which Abranatic religion is more insane.

should've probalby been more specific:

trying to argue which Abranatic religion is more inherently violent, both Christianity and Islam have a long list of atrocities to each name. To argue which one is worse is incredibly boring to me.

The old testament is basically one military slaughter after another.

Yeah, but history is what happened, religion is the reason given for a lot of what happened. That does not excuse religion.

The evil would be on a far more diffuse scale. There's nothing to inspire mass hatred and prejudice by a people or against a people than to convince everyone around you that the creator of the universe is on your side.

The Hatfields and the McCoys, or national wars over land or resources would be about the worst you would get without religion. You would cut out an entire reason for people to get their panties in a twist.

Its all wishful thinking, though. Religion, like the poor, will always be with us. One lacks money, the other lacks thought.

Pol Pot: Class war against the wealthy and well-educated, ostensibly in the quest for rice

Stalin: Couldn't kill that many through purges if he tried. Probably well under 500k killed through wrath of Stalin. Most of that 60 mil was due to incredibly bad agricultural policy and drought. Lysenko probably killed the majority of that 60 mil.

Hitler: Actually closer to 13 million, but 6 million were singled out for their religion and nothing but. I'm fuzzy o the details, but I think some other flavors of catholicism were singeld out as well for the final solution.

if the cartoon itself wasn't the comments certainly turned into it.

I beg to differ. The cartoon had four panels, three of which had religious overtones.

You're making the point that these are not religiosu deceptions, but political ones. Its akin to saying that Islam is not a religion, but a political movement. Fair point, but religion is still being used as the thing to rally around and do unto others whatever you can get away with.

Well of course its wrong, by definition. Hypocrisy makes the world go around, though. I can't name a single person who lives with total consistency of words and deeds.
