And this "war" is over, or at least the way the Bushies attempted to frame it.
You can't declare war on 'terror', a noun or tactic. A war on terror is, by definition, a permanent war... which is a pretty fascist concept (sorry to sound like a teabagger). Yes, there are terrorists out there and we should stop them, but fighting terrorism is a crime-fighting issue, not a military one.
There are plenty of dangerous, proven terrorists already in U.S. prisons, and plenty of people at Gitmo for whom there is no evidence of wrongdoing, other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That system needs to end ASAP.
If we're saying we're so scared of terrorists that our justice system can't handle it, then we as a country might as well just quit right now.
Obviously mad, however: we can't let some things unpunished. Justice must be seen to apply to all: else what are the "values" we spend so much of our time trumpeting....& exporting, often encouraged using the gentle persuasion of our charming Military Industrial Complex. You know, the ones that think rape is a matter for arbitration. Oops, is that another double-standard showing?
Yeah, because it was such a disaster when we did just that after the first WTC bombing. Remind me again how many of the perpetrators of the first attack are in custody as opposed to the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks?
I love their argument that they may get out if we bring them into America. I like the idea of keeping them on a military base to face trial. If anyone could deal with a breakout it's a bunch of military personnel.
The real problem housing them in a US base would the fact that the base (everyone assigned to it) would immediatly become targets for every Jihadi and Protester with a grudge.
The reason Ft. Leavenworth refused to take them was not that they couldn't be held there, but that the city didn't want to deal with all the political backlash.
Personally I think we should either relase them and be done with it, or put them in a hanger at Groom Lake or some other equally remote site.
Put them in a hangar at Groom Lake? What are you, crazy? There's no way we can let those terrorist bastards anywhere near all that captured alien technology!
Obviously we can not allow the "Ismalofacsists" access to extra-terrestrial technology but I'm sure there are secret government sites scattered throughout New Mexico, Nevada, and Alaska that would be equally suitable.
