Yah, he's been quite good in the past I thought, but in this sketch, he wasn't up to snuff. The content made it funny though, well sad really but in a funny kind of way ;)
SNL has gone way downhill this year. The fact that they couldn't find anyone who looks remotely like Obama to play Obama, despite there being many good comedians out there who do look like him (including the guy who was on Mad TV who is presumably unemployed at the moment), is very indicative of their decline. Pretty much the only thing on that show worth watching anymore is Weekend Update and they've also suffered in quality as they've replaced the funny parts (reading the news) with more and more stupid guests.
mcpreacher is correct... the real genius of Tina Fey's Palin bits was that she was just using Palin's real speeches and interviews (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjZW4z9zqqY), mostly word for word. And Palin's defenders ranted at SNL's portrayal is why people thought Palin was dumb... but the reality is that Palin is just that dumb.
With that said, I thought this Obama skit was as funny as it was angering.
