...that was so painfully on as an imitation of Fundie excuses that it made me want to rack a shotgun. Bravo?

Resounding agreement with i on this one. I used to be very devout. Eventually I realized that God either didn't exist, or was an utter, rotten bastard. Either way: unworthy of worship. The realization broke my heart at the time. Now I just feel like I wasted the first twenty-three years of my life on a bunch of bull.

The only things in the world we can ever get upset about are disappointed expectations. Once you've let go of those, you're invincible!

The Bible has a lot to say about the poor but doesn't really resolve this basic issue -- it hammers again and again on the spiritual benefit of serving the poor and helping them, and both the OT and the NT are full of commands to help the poor and woe to those who do not.

Then there are puzzling parts like: "Did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?"

Jesus said that we would always have the poor with us, which is a depressing thought but I suppose the way of the world.

I see no reason to take Jesus' word on it. Material scarcity is something the human race can outgrow.

He put *us* here to stop that from happening. Other people are *our* job; his involvement in day-to-day operations ended sometime between Isaiah and Jesus. He's pretending he's Bill Gates, basically.

The existance of pain and suffering and want, doesn't disprove God. And I hope, sincerely, that after you posted this, or answered the OP, you wrote a check or wired some money to a charity that will do some good somewhere where people actually are starving. Otherwise, the pot is calling the kettle black.

the problem for evil is and has been a series theolgical issue for the christan faith since aquinces time, and contunes to be so should you wish to get in to aguements on the subject (privded someone dose not call god objective fact, but rather faith, im fine with that). god is stated as all loveing, all powerful, all knowing, yet theres a simple sylogsism that deals with this perfectly.

1) god is all knowing and all loveing and all powerful
2) evil, pain, suffering etc, exist.
3) if god is all loveing, and evil exists, he can not be all powerful if he can not stop it
4) if god is all powerful, then he can not be all loveing, cos letting people suffer with infiant cosmic power is kind of a dick move

im a steadfast agnostic, but thats becous ive done to much philsophhy.

It's funny that so many people here prefer to just bash religion, without even thinking logically for a moment. Let me prove my point:
1) God is all powerful and all knowing (axiom)
2) Humans have free will. (axiom, there are various explanations why it can co-exist with axiom 1)
Ergo, human suffering is a result of human decision, made freely and without interference from God (there are some examples of his direct intereference, but they were quite limited in scale). If he would actually do something and perform miracles to eliminate evil, hunger and suffering, then it'll mean that humans can't make their own decisions and face the consequences and they'll cease to be humans (maybe they'll be angels then, but God already has enough them).
