See, this cartoon doesn't even really get the issue across correctly. Gates was inside his home when the officer confronted him, and Gates and he were able to quickly establish that Gates was indeed the home owner and that no crime had been or was being committed. And then because Gates-- tired from a long trip, frustrated with the situation as we would be-- perhaps was a bit loud with the officer, he was arrested in a huge abuse of authority.
It's understandable that the race aspect of this is being hyped, but really this is mostly a story of an abuse of power, of a media which loves sensationalism, and a right-wing all too eager to stoke tensions.
Let's see... a whole mess of unrelated (both to each other and to the topic at hand) "facts" that are totally uncited, and in some cases, easily disproved (Wal-Mart's CEO in 2005 made over $10M plus massive stock option benefits that weren't listed as monetary compensation).
