Again, it is NOT a crime to be angry in your own home. The President was right the first time... the officer in this case acted stupidly. I say that as someone with a brother and friends in the NYPD. Gates was the victim here, not the officer who is supposed to be trained to keep his head in situations.
No laws were broken, yet a man was arrested anyway. I thought conservatives were supposed to be against abuses of government power and authority??
As to the other issue... well, go read the 911 call transcript (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/07/the-gates-911-call.html).

I keep wondering how some of these right-wingers would react if the Police came into their homes and started demanding identification? I'd be willing to bet that at least some of them would react with anger and outrage.
The difference is that they most likely wouldn't have been arrested for it. I think that's the real racial issue here: Not so much that Professor Gates was targeted because he was black, but rather the difference in how he was expected to react (and the difference in how he was treated when he became angry).
I wonder how the generally-right-winged birthers would feel if they started getting arrested for being too loud and inciting at tea parties/birther celebrations/idiot parades
