it's funny because the democrats have done things like put the Iraq and Afghan war back ONTO the visible budget, and opened up meetings to CSpan! It's OPPOSITE DAY!

Don't mind at all. =]

(For the record, I've taken the class and have the weapon, but have not submitted the license application because it's $100 and things are a little tight at the moment. I have a year from the class to do so. )

I'll list the reasons in order:

1. Defense. Of self. Of home. Of family.
ATM muggings. Rapes. Random assaults. Home invasions. So many instances when violence can break out, and a deterrent or the ability to project force can make the difference between being a survivor and a casualty. I've been randomly assaulted on the street numerous times. I intend to be prepared for the next one.

Also, I'm a mobile small businessman servicing homeowners all over the Reno area. I go to a LOT of homes in all class/economic demographics all over my area, never know what neighborhood or situation I'll be in, where I'll have to stop for lunch or gas, etc etc.

2. Fun + practice.
Since I'd have my pistol with me at all times, it would make it easier to go to the range, given my utterly random schedule and range of destinations. I can already carry it in my vehicle, so it's not such a big deal, but if it's standing up ready in my pocket thanks to the Uncle Mike's pocket holster I use...

3. Disaster preparedness.
We live in interesting times. I have a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, solar flashlights, machete, tire jack and iron, and numerous other tools that can aid in survival situations, from crashing the jeep on a mountain drive to surviving the temporary regional breakdown of law and order. A gun is just another tool.

4. Principle.
An armed individual is a citizen.
An unarmed individual is a subject.

Helpy?

"Gun control???"

"Nationalization??!!"

"Global Warming" and "Cap & Trade" are the same thing. The cartoonist couldn't even come up with enough things to write on all the little bits of paper in his own drawing.

I'd like this better if it weren't openly partisan (i.e. the donkey was replaced by a generic bureaucrat).
