It's too much, too fast, too soon.

So says Michael Steele, Republican National Committee Chairman, about Health Care Reform, in remarks Monday at the National Press Club in Washington.

His sentiments are reminiscent of the kind of resistance that White supremacists displayed against Civil Rights, in the Deep South 50 years ago.

It's not surprising that audience members reportedly threw Oreo cookies at him, at a 2002 Maryland gubernatorial debate!

Hear, hear. I think national health care is a good thing, but this comparison isn't really valid.

Well, I think the OP's idea might be that good health care is a basic human right too.

I could almost buy it on the idea that it's denying people civil rights based on class rather than race but it still feels like a bit of a stretch.

Is there a Godwin's Law equivalent for trying to draw comparisons to the plight of blacks in America? Because there needs to be.

Uh....maybe that's a bit too far?

Actually I had the same thought of anti-civil rights arguments by southerners in the 60s ...

Well, seems an analogy fraught with peril. Oh well, it sucks, but not sure its in the same league. Course, I don't have a life threatening illness and being denied insurance or something like that...

Okay, seems an analogy fraught with peril, but you cannot deny what you think.
