not agreeing with your fan club here. unless you have a plan to stop humans from spawning faster than they die at an alarming ratio, we damn well better find another rock to colonize.
So, can we stop the Apophis meteor strike in 2036 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99942_Apophis)? If so, it was worth it. If not, it matters not. Not to mention we notice these things to begin with...
That was "reality television" at it's finest. 40 or so years later, reality TV is scripted, science is being dumbed down and religion is cramming it's unwelcome nose into everything. The kid is probably now unemployed after his job was outsourced, his home in foreclosure.
The Apollo Program cost $25.4 billion (that's about $135 billion today's dollars).
The program yielded about 842 lbs of rocks and lunar soil.
As for religion ...
For thousands of years there has been a propaganda campaign that people are flawed, that we are the problem, and that religion is the solution.
Pick your poison Judeo-Christian, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism - it makes no real difference - it's all about the dynamic of controlling humanity via fear and social engineering.
These belief systems have helped bring about more havoc, division, death and destruction than they've ever prevented.
Thankfully, they are gasping their collective last breaths.
This is especially welcome news for America, since for the past eight years, much of our government was run by a mob of religious, Armageddonist whack jobs - delusional, paranoid and psychotic people whose every move is influenced by their imagined invisible, angry old man in the sky.
It's all just a bunch of superstitious bullshit!
The sooner people realize the true destructive, manipulative nature of ALL religion, the better off we'll all be!
We should have never stopped. People love to talk about the cost and starving people, and starving kids and blah blah blah. Apollo shouldn't have stopped. Going to the moon should have continued, and the Space shuttle shouldn't have happened. We could be going to Mars by now opposed to working up the money to go to the moon again, which would be much cheaper and well established by now if we'd never stopped. It's heart-breaking, really.
