Kennedy was the one who got us into Vietnam and also almost got us nuked into the Stone Age by the Soviet Union. And tried to stage an invasion of Cuba that only served to prop up the regime for another 50 years or so. Yay fucking Kennedy.

Kennedy didn't try to stage an invasion of Cuba, he did stage on invasion of Cube that failed, which helped Castro remain in power.

I admit I'm not Mr. History Guy, this was before I was born I'm pretty sure (which is no excuse), but if it failed doesn't it make the word "try" valid? And "helped Castro remain in power" is what I said, so in short, yes, exactly.

well, if were gona get picky, he backed a CIA funded and trained coup attampt that failed and helped castro remian in power.

Doesn't that pretty much bolster xforge's case though that Kennedy's foreign policy is hardly to be admired.

The way I see it his foreign policy had one (big) highlight... his handling of the missile crisis, but otherwise it was a big mess.

Actually it was Eisenhower that got us into Vietnam when he signed an agreement to back French interests in Southeast Asia. It happened on Kennedy's watch. Kennedy was still a bastard, but not for that reason. Credit should be given where it is due.

Don't worry- I still like you.

Nope. It was Truman who decided to back the French return to their colonies. The first aid to the South started in 1950. As did the decision to not back Ho Chi Minh. The first military Advisors arrived in 1950. Bao Dai's government was recognized in 1950.

1) WTF, exactly, are we supposed to do in Iran? Totally bankrupt ourselves, seeing as we're already fighting a two-front war in Iraq and Afghanistan, trying to "liberate" Iran, only to find ourselves in yet another quagmire with IEDs and suicide bombers galore? I completely fail to see where it's our obligation to die for the freedom of another; such an act would be supererogatory, if possible.

2) Dictator? How can he be a dictator when what he was trying to do was an (apparently illegal) public referendum? No, he's not a dictator. At worst, he's a demagogue, but, honestly, what politician in a country that's democratic to any extent not somewhat of a demagogue?

How can he be a dictator when what he was trying to do was an (apparently illegal) public referendum?

When the Honduran Supreme Court rules it illegal and especially when that referendum is to remove term limits so he can remain in power long enough to consolidate his position like a *ahem* dictator.

Everyone props Kennedy up as this great leader, but why? He got us into Vietnam and worsened things with the Soviet Union. We were paranoid about Communist back then the same way we are today about terrorist. Does that mean we should bog our selves down in 3 wars?
Whats that old saying? If we do not learn from the past we are doomed to repeat it.

"Credit Should be given where it is due."

Yes it should. Truman reversed Roosevelt's plan to decolonize South East Asia, and supplied the French up until they pulled out. It was nessecery to keep the support of the French anti-communists who were already becoming very anti-US a al DeGaul.

Eisenhower, rachets it up a notch, as does Kennedy, and then LBJ, but the ball starts with Truman for siding with la France against the erstwhile US ally Ho Chi Minh.

I am sure whoever drew this defines "friend" the same way as Bush did, whoever is going along with my ideas and wont question them, and "foe" is everyone else including citizens who moan about the legality of homeland security.

Liberty and tyranny are just words used as toppings on the bs cake.

What I like is how one is a literal excerpt from a speech and the other is just your standard view of leftist foreign policy seen via GOP beer goggles.
