Arrogance?

What the heck, since the topic of arrogance came up a couple of days ago...

And then there's... not arrogance perhaps, but hubris.

I'm not a big fan of Candorville. The art and characters offer great promise, but it always falls flat. No edge.

But I do like the Trudeau-esque use of the burning bush to represent Obama.

Which make me think, has Trudeau featured Obama in his strip yet? And if he has, what metaphor has he chosen to represent him? If he has not yet rendered Obama, any guesses as to what he'll use?

I think Trudeau is stuck on how to portray Obama. Had this other cartoonist not done it first, I think the burning bush would have been spot on.

The thing is, I don't feel as though the current administration has given us the bit of comedy needed for there to be enough inspiration for Trudeau to pick a metaphor for Obama. I think it's a sign of the times we live in but I don't think there will be much comedy, intentional or otherwise from this administration for a while.

Some ideas...

I agree. I think he's waiting for a good storyline to emerge. But here are some ideas I'm thinking of:

- A God-like light shining from the sky
- A boom box (aka ghetto blaster). You know, a nice racist/stereotypical reference to him being the first black president but also a good orator. I think something like that would get an "oh my god, I can't believe he did that" kind of reaction.
- Or perhaps just a speaker (you know, like a Marshal amp or something like that) since his best skill is giving speeches.
- A swaddled infant. It could reference his youth, inexperience, and idealism. There's be a baby Jesus aspect to that one as well.
- A mirror, which could represent that his administration is reflecting back what we put into it. He could also play with the public's lofty admiration of him as some sort of vanity, or a kind of "we see in him what we want to see."

OK, I admit, I'm thinking about this waaaaay too much.

I like the beam of light idea. Who knows, we might see that one day in an upcoming strip.
