In this cartoon, circa 1871, the gorilla is saying: "That man wants to claim my pedigree. He says he is one of my descendants." Mr Bergh (the founder of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) replies: "Now, Mr Darwin, how could you insult him so?"

SPCA and PETA have almost nothing in common.
the SPCA has worked for over a hundred years to make sure animals where not being abused and peta has worked for a 28-9 years to try and make us all stop eating them.
One set of people are batshit crazy the other are a group of caring people that go out and do something about the treatment of animals.
Not saying Wiki is a good souce but from wiki-
A humane society may be a group that aims to stop human or animal suffering due to cruelty or other reasons, although in many countries it is now used mostly for societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals
Peta's wiki-
PETA's slogan is "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment." The organization focuses on four core issues: factory farming, fur farming, animal testing, and animals in entertainment.

Mad Props to my main monkey Thomas Nast, one of the most influential and powerful political cartoonists in American History.

Notable achievements of Thomas Nast:

Abraham Lincoln called him the nation's "best recruiting Sargeant" during the civil war.

Influential in election of Presidents Grant, Hayes, and Cleveland.

Almost singlehandedly brought down the Boss Tweed "Tammamy" political machine.

Creator of the representative images of Uncle Sam, and the Democratic Donkey and Republican Elephant. Was also the first to depict Santa Claus in his modern fat, jolly, form.

At times conflicted and politically incorrect, he nevertheless rallied support against Jim Crow laws, for rights for Indians and Chinese Americans.

And apparently, he thought Darwin was silly.
